Commitment to ESG
Our focus is on improving ESG practices because we believe in the power of a sustainable future. Sometimes we find simple solutions, but often the challenges are complex because the perfect solution is still missing and collaboration in the chain can be improved. As a forward-thinking organization with an eye on the future, we feel responsible for being ahead of the curve on this issue, which is why we have set 6 measurable targets, where we take the right steps toward a more sustainable chain. In this way, we ensure that we keep moving forward and we do not wait for the perfect solutions, every step counts as far as we are concerned! Together we strive for a more sustainable chain, for a better world, that improves every day!
Our 6 objectives
Within Velder, safety is a priority with ‘zero accidents’ as the basis. We operate from the point of view that every accident can and must be prevented. Every person on our premises must observe the regulations. Our safety team has a dominant voice in setting up the internal processes.
Our employees are the core of our company; we have this as a measurable goal. A survey is conducted quarterly and extensive research is conducted annually on the status quo. We have a clear job description, supportive HR policies and attention to a pleasant working atmosphere.
Worldwide 1/3 of total food production is wasted, which is something we find unacceptable. This problem is mainly tackled by reducing surpluses and a better supply chain process. Any surpluses we have, we try to donate as much as possible to local food banks.
Cheese is a product that is mainly packed in plastic and there is a reason for that. The product has a longer shelf life and consumers want to see the product. A circular solution that pursues those goals does not yet exist, but we are making every effort with our partners to reduce the amount of plastic we use as much as possible.
We aim to buy only sustainably produced cheeses, but also to increase the number of cheeses that are planet-proof, vegan or organic. There, we look critically at the overall ESG footprint to ensure that the cheeses are more sustainable.
By making improvements to our transport, we ensure fewer CO2 emissions. We do this, among other things, by making the fleet more sustainable, more sustainable driving behavior and efficient planning of our journeys. For example, we are now also conducting a test with electric cars for transport within cities. We measure the impact of our initiatives using a digital tool.
