Today we officially signed the agreement as proud partners of the Together Against Food Waste Foundation. Together with companies such as Friesland Campina, Unilever, Jumbo, Lidl, Albert Heijn and many others, we are taking a big step towards reducing food waste in the Netherlands.

Why is this so important?
In the Netherlands we waste 2 billion kilos of good food every year, of which 24-38% is consumed by consumers. Much of this is due to lack of clarity about expiration dates. Our coalition wants to tackle this by communicating more clearly about THT (best before) and TGT (use by) dates.

What are we going to do?

  • Introduction of the look-smell-test icon on THT products.
  • Communicate more about the shelf life of products.
  • Conduct research to implement improvements in the supply chain together with chain partners, with regard to the minimum time until the expiry date of products upon delivery.

With these measures we want to help consumers waste less food and contribute to a more sustainable world. At Velder we are proud of this collaboration and we remain committed to a better future.
